So I need to edit the footer to add a few images for Social Media, PayPal Payments, and SSL Logo how would I go about doing this?

If you are not running a custom theme, would recommend that you make a copy of the "catalog/view/theme/default" folder and then rename it to something else, for example "mystore".
You can then edit the /template/common/footer.tpl file and make any html changes required.
Save the changes, upload the "mystore" folder to /catalog/view/theme directory on your website, and then activate the new theme via the admin panel under Settings >> Themes
Or you can just edit file file catalog/view/theme/default/template/common/footer.tpl and make the changes; however, this file will be overwritten when you update/upgrade your installation.
You should test this somewhere before changing your live storefront.
