Hello:

I am an auctioneer and am planning on using this in a product catalog mode (using an extension to hide price & shopping cart) to archive and make searchable our past sale items and results.

In doing this, I would need to be able to bulk import the data to create the items and also the associated item photos. Each of our auctions have hundreds of lots (items) and thousands of associated photos - and we run many auctions - so manually adding items and attaching photos would be a monumental task.

My current auction management software already has export features for doing this, as we have been exporting data and photos for years and using them to create online real-time bidding catalogs on 3rd party sites (LiveAuctioneers.com, Invaluable.com etc).

I am able to export a csv and have all of the fields identified in columns of the spreadsheet, to include naming of the exported associated photos.

I see there are extensions available which seem to accomplish this for this software. I see quite a few choices. I am curious for any feedback or recommendations from anyone who has used these extensions in the past and which may work best...and be the easiest to use with Arastta?

Any thoughts or feedback would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Malcolm

Go for an Export for Malcolm, you'll see that there is an image_name field in the Products sheet for the main image and an Additionalmages sheet for other images.

    Hi Malcolm,

First of all, good luck on your site.

Have you tried the built-in Import / Export tool of Arastta? https://arastta.org/docs/user-manual/tools/export-import

    Thank you so much.

One of my largest needs in this import function is the ability to import the photos and have them automatically associate to the items.

We have thousands of photos for each auction catalog, and as such it would be very cumbersome to have to manually attach the photos to each of the items.

I have the ability to export them from my current software and define the image file names and have them populate a csv file alongside all of the other data for the export. This is how I currently export the data for loading online catalogs on other Online Auction Catalog Sites.

I did not see this functionality in the Arastta import / export tool. It seems to only support data.

Would it be possible to bulk import images?

For example, LiveAuctioneers is one of the sites where I currently run my online auctions for live, real-time bidding. Their process is to upload a csv file with all of the predefined item fields - Import of the spreadsheet created the items. You then create an image folder on their server and upload your images in to the folder. The images are all properly named to associate to the items as defined on the spreadsheet which was uploaded. You then select and process the image folder, and a procedure runs against the folder to associate the images to the items you have just created. It is a very efficient process and I am looking to try and replicate it with Arastta.

I see being able to use Arastta as a sub-domain to my auction website, so that I can create my own product catalog of passed sales - on my website (not a 3rd party provider). This will be good for SEO and future business, and will also create a place for clients to go and see the types of items we sell and what they have realized at auction.

Sorry for the long response, but I wanted to be clear in what I was looking to do with import of the data and images.

    Thank you your thoughts.

Okay. Great. I will give it a look and a try.

I am really looking forward to seeing how this might work out for me.

I have been looking for a nice product catalog for quite some time.

All of my sites are built in Joomla, and with all the available extensions, none really seemed to meet the need.

    Thanks again for your feedback.
